HOSPITAL STUDIES
Ex N’ Flex Assists in Stroke Recovery
Patient: 26 years post, suffering profound right CVA secondary to cerebral aneurysm. She presented with such increased extensor tone in her left arm and leg that she could not comfortably sit in a wheel chair for independent mobility.

EF – 250 Leg Machine – commenced December 1996
RESULTS: She was able to achieve and maintain enough range to sit comfortably and safely in a wheel chair and subsequently lifts her own left foot off the floor to place it on the wheelchair foot pedal.

EF – 100 Arm Machine – Commenced June 1997
RESULTS: Initially her left hand had to be secured to the handle. Now she is able to maintain the appropriate position with the regular forearm strap. By positioning the EF-100 in various positions she has also achieved a reduction in trunk tone and no longer requires the thoracic straps on her chair for positioning.

EX N’ FLEX AIDS IN BRAIN INJURY RECOVERY

EF-250 Leg Exerciser

  • Improved mental attitude
  • Beneficial rhythmic patterning
  • Improves flexibility of Muscles Joints and Tendons (Registered on the Biofeedback Display)
  • Ankle movement stretches Achilles tendon, prevents and overcomes drop foot
  • Reverse motion for increased ankle movement
  • Improves Balance
  • Predictable patterned movement alleviates necessity for caregivers to provide hand manipulation of limbs which is extremely tiring and less predictable
  • Improved bowel function and control
  • Improved bladder function and control
  • Stretches lower back muscles
  • Works abdominal muscles
  • Reduced pain and spasm
  • Reduces edema
  • Increased venous return which helps avoid phlebitis and skin breakdown
  • Increased energy level
  • Where voluntary movement is present, active effort may be used in conjunction with the motor
  • with results of the effort measured on the Biofeedback Display

EF-100 Arm Exerciser

  • Improved mental attitude
  • Unique Arm Support to prevent drag on frequently painful, sub-luxated shoulder
  • Stretching of tendons and muscles into hand helps to reduce extreme tone and improve
    flexibility of contracted fingers
  • Improved arm motion / hand finger control
  • During horizontal motion, placing unaffected arm over affected arm gives trunk movement
  • All three movements work trunk, shoulder and back muscles
  • Shifting of weight from one buttock to the other helps prevent and/or heal pressure sores and alleviate skin breakdown

As reported by clients:

  • Subluxated shoulder gap reduced
  • Use of Tens no longer required as the pain went away
